Gotta Keep Reading!

If you ask one of my students what their favorite things to do is, I'll bet not many responses would be "reading".  These next few weeks, we'll really be focusing on reading books that are at our appropriate level.  We'll also be focusing on reading the book from cover to cover.  I feel that although we expect our students to do this, we don't teach it!  Students get bored with a book or start another before they finish the first, so we'll be working on reading 1 book at a time.

You can help by encouraging your child to read at home!  Here are some fun ways to do just that:
  • set aside some time for just you and your child.  You can read to them, or they can read to you.  Just keep reading!
  • find a quiet place to read together
  • take turns reading pages
  • have your child read the recipe instructions to you!
  • designate a special place in your house just for reading!
  • be a role model for your child - keep reading for YOU!  Newspapers, Novels, Magazines, etc.  Show your child that reading is important to you as well
If you have any other ways you incorporate reading at home, leave a comment here!

To get my students pumped up for reading, I am going to show one of my favorite videos inspired by the Black Eyed Peas.  Take a look!
